What’s up future engineering Vols! My name is Abby Chubb and I am a senior majoring in Aerospace Engineering and minoring in Leadership Studies. I’m from a suburb just north of Columbus, Ohio, but Tennessee, with its warm weather & mountains quickly became my new home! I am a big fan of the T.V. show Survivor, Noodles & Company, and (recently) pickle ball!
Prior to making an official visit to UT in February of 2018, I was still very unsettled about where to go to college. The second I stepped onto campus and received a personal tour of the engineering college, it became crystal clear this is where I wanted to spend the next four years of my life. The Tickle College of Engineering conveyed such a sense of care for their students and convinced me I would be surrounded by tremendous support and resources as I transitioned into college and engineering. I can proudly say UT has exceeded these expectations and my love for this college has only grown.
On campus I am a member of the Honors Engineering Program, the Honors Leadership Program (HLP), Tau Beta Pi (Engineering Honors Society), and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). Off campus, I serve as an intern with my church, Sevier Heights, and their college ministry called The Walk. I also had the opportunity to study abroad in Milan, Italy for three weeks in May of 2019! (This is by far one of my most cherished college memories, so I’d love to share more details if you have any questions about study abroad experiences!)
I have held three summer internships: the first with Plymouth Engineered Shapes in Hopkinsville, KY as a process engineering intern, the second with Dynetics, Inc. in Huntsville, AL as a systems engineering intern, and the third with Northrop Grumman (virtually) as a mission operations intern. All of these experiences were invaluable and allowed me to experience how to interact with adult coworkers in all different departments, manage an income, live on my own, and discover that I desire to begin my career in the space & defense industry. I’d love to share more about any of these experiences, so please don’t hesitate to reach out!
College is a big transition, especially when moving to a new state, but I cannot imagine myself anywhere else. I hope UT steals your heart as it did mine! Welcome to Rocky Top and please reach out if you want to chat!! Go VOLS!!
