Hey y’all! Welcome to Big Orange Country!
My name is Bradley Balltrip and I’m a nuclear engineering major from here in Knoxville, Tennessee. Growing up in Knoxville, I’ve always loved three things: math, science, and the Vols. So when the opportunity came to attend Tennessee, there truly is no place in the country that I’d rather be.
My involvement on campus is really spread out, giving me the opportunity to be myself through everything I love. Probably my favorite and the most rewarding thing I do is work with the special needs students of the FUTURE Program. I’ve not only gained countless lessons from this but also some incredible friends. As well, I’m a member of the SGA Traditions committee where we try to embrace the big orange spirit by bringing students together. And finally, I’m an active member of the American Nuclear Society where I get to meet and engage my fellow nukes.
This fall, I am living in Birmingham, Alabama while on a Co-op with Southern Nuclear. This opportunity has given me the chance to work with one of the most respected nuclear fuel companies in the United States and learn about reactors and their fuel sources. While only on my first rotation, I am already loving the team I am with and the knowledge I’m gaining.
Outside of school, I love to take road trips with my friends and explore the country. The college has really given me the chance to find this part of myself. As well, there is no better feeling than being in the student sections at Tennessee game. Whether I’m singing Rocky Top in Neyland Stadium or in Thompson Boling Arena, it’s never a dull moment. Finally, I also play lacrosse in the local men’s league every year.
I hope that each and every one of you consider Tennessee and everything it as to offer. Coming here as truly been one of the best decisions I have ever made and has given me opportunities I could not have gotten anywhere else! I can’t wait to help you make Rocky Top your home for the next four years! Go Vols!
