Dawson Smith

Ambassador Profile

Hello everyone! My name is Dawson Smith and I am a senior in Electrical Engineering from Germantown, TN. This is my first year as an ambassador for the college, and I am so excited to be able to represent the college and help show future Vols what it means to be an engineer! When I graduate in the Spring, I plan on going to grad school to pursue a Masters in Electrical Engineering and possibly a PhD after that. My favorite thing about the Tickle College of Engineering is the diversity of engineering majors and how I am able to have engineering friends that are studying so many different and cool things.

Last year, I worked a co-op for Siemens Healthineers here in Knoxville, TN. At Siemens, I worked on the Electrical Research and Development team and assisted in a variety of projects while I was there. At their Knoxville location, they work on and design the latest PET and CT scanners to be used to detect cancer and provide high detail imaging of the human body. During my time, I was able to gain valuable experience in things ranging from software design, to hardware layout and part selection.

Outside being an ambassador, I am also involved with greek life as a member of Delta Tau Delta and have served as an executive board member as well as the alumni relations chair now. I also used to work at the indoor climbing gym, the Vol Wall, and I participated in the Student Outdoor Leadership Experience (S.O.L.E). This experience has helped foster my love for the outdoors and hiking, and on the weekends I love to spend my time away from the classroom being outside. I hope that you will contact me with any questions you may have and Go Vols!
