I’m Eli Crouse and I’m a senior studying Nuclear Engineering.
I’m from Nashville, Tennessee, and am interested in experimental reactor designs, fusion reactors, and all things science related! I was especially drawn to the Tickle College of Engineering (TCE) because of their proximity to the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and their focus on getting students involved in research and the workforce.
Besides being a TCE Ambassador, I am also involved in fusion research with Dr. Wirth, and I am a mentor to rising nuclear engineering students. I’m also involved with the American Nuclear Society, and I’m enrolled as a Cook Grand Scholar. These are just a few of the extracurricular academic activities you can be a part of.
Here at the TCE, you are encouraged to explore and be involved with many different groups, whether it's specific to your major or not. Outside of classes, I am active with the UTK Rock Climbing Club. I go on trips most weekends to the Smokies, Chattanooga, the Obed, and several other climbing and hiking spots. I also stay active in my community by volunteering with the local Habitat for Humanity chapter. They give me ample opportunities every month to be creative and helpful on build sites.
I have experience working at the Farley Nuclear Plant as a reactor engineering co-op. While there, I earned multiple qualifications that allowed me to perform my job and I developed my skills as an engineer.
During my time at UT, I’ve been involved in many other clubs such as Engineers with Borders (EWB), TEDxUTK Financial Team, Gamma Beta Phi honors society, the Canoe and Hiking Club, and the Habitat for Humanity campus chapter. I’ve met many of my good friends in these groups and UT gave me the chance to find what interests me.
Feel free to email me with any questions you may have about nuclear engineering, engineering, or just UT in general.
I can’t wait to see you on campus and Go Vols!
