Ambassador Profile

Hey, future Volunteers!

My name is Erin Van Hoozier and I am a senior studying civil and environmental engineering. I was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee. I chose UTK because I could not pass up an SEC school with a great engineering program located in my back yard! Aside from being a Tickle Ambassador, I am the treasurer of ASCE, involved with RUF, and an alum of a Greek organization. I also love to camp and hike in the Great Smoky Mountains (which is a short drive from UTK’s campus). Being outside is where I am my happiest, and I hope to incorporate that passion into my future career.

I was drawn to the CEE department at University of Tennessee because I am interested in stream remediation and contamination cleanups. As a future environmental engineer, I hope to work in either of those fields. The Tickle College of Engineering stood out to me because not only will I graduate with a background in environmental engineering, I will also have a foundation in general civil engineering. Having the option to professionally pivot, without having obtain another degree, is very appealing to me. The Tickle College of Engineering has faculty that want to see me (and all of their students) succeed, which is another reason why I am proud to be a student of the Tickle College of Engineering at UTK.

The University of Tennessee is a unique school because, as a student, you can make the college feel as big or as small as you want! I have gotten involved with multiple organizations that interest me, and because of this, I feel like UTK is tailored to my wants and needs.  With that being said, I also make the University of Tennessee feel like a huge SEC school on football gamedays. The energy around campus on gamedays is simply unmatchable and exhilarating! I wouldn’t trade a gameday on campus for the world!

We are so excited that you are interested in the Tickle College of Engineering and we hope to meet you soon. And as always…
