Ambassador Profile

Hi, Future Vols!

My name is Landry Wells and I’m a junior studying nuclear engineering from Murfreesboro, Tennessee. My interest in science has been lifelong, and I love what I’ve learnt thus far as a nuke major! My specific interests lie in next generation fuels and medical isotopes.

This past summer I worked at United Cleanup Oak Ridge (UCOR) as a Nuclear Operations Engineering Intern. While at UCOR, I had a fantastic experience working with my mentor, learning about the process of decommissioning nuclear reactors. I worked closely with engineers and craftsmen to add safety-significant systems to the Molten Salt Reactor Experiment. Becoming familiar with professional engineering workflows and DOE Safety Standards at a Category 2 Nuclear Facility was priceless.

Outside of school, I enjoy the beauty of East Tennessee. I’m always going for hikes at the nearby state/national parks, and when I’m not on the trail, I’m in Neyland Stadium cheering on the Vols! I also enjoy playing my electric bass and video games with friends.

The Tickle College of Engineering has dozens of organizations for academic, professional, and social development. A few that I have joined include American Nuclear Society, Institute of Nuclear Materials Management, Cook Grand Challenge Honors Program, and the Engineering Living and Learning Community. I am also involved in undergraduate research within the Nuclear Department. These groups and activities have helped me meet both industry professionals and great friends.

I applied to several schools at the end of high school, but I can’t imagine myself being so successful anywhere else. The Engineering College has an unmatched support system and limitless opportunities for you to learn and grow as a student, professional, and person. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out! I look forward to meeting you on campus, Go Vols!
