Ambassador Profile

Hi!! I’m Lauren Meffe, a junior majoring in Civil Engineering. I chose Civil Engineering because I am fascinated with the design and construction of structures and other Civil Engineering works. I am a native VOLunteer, born and raised in Kingsport, TN. I am so excited you have an interest in the Tickle College of Engineering. It is an awesome family to be a part of at the University of Tennessee! – Go Vols!!

There are numerous opportunities available at the University of Tennessee to become engaged in academic, professional, and social organizations. I am a member of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and took advantage of the SWEeties mentorship program during my freshman year. A SWE senior mentor was assigned to me and provided guidance academically and socially. I am also involved in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), a professional organization for civil engineers.

As a freshman, I was a part of the ENGAGE Engineering Living and Learning Community (LLC). Living with engineering students helped me form study groups, develop better study habits, and make lifelong friends. This experience provides first-year students an excellent opportunity to quickly adjust to college life and have support near, when needed.

The education at the University of Tennessee is outstanding. The professors are always willing to spend time working with students until the concepts and principles are understood. Teamwork is stressed in the education curriculum, such as the projects and labs in the Engineering Fundamentals courses. The past two summers, I have had the opportunity to apply my engineering skills while interning at Eastman Chemical Company in their Worldwide Engineering and Construction division. As an intern, I have found that my engineering classes are taught practically and are applicable to real-world projects.

Making the University of Tennessee home has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I encourage you to take a tour of Rocky Top’s Engineering program to experience all the wonderful opportunities it has to offer. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me. Good luck and I wish you the best!
