My name is Maddie Younginer and I am a senior studying mechanical engineering. I am from the wonderful town of Nolensville, Tennessee, which is about 30 minutes south of Nashville! Having a three hour drive between home and school has been the perfect distance for random weekend trips while still being just far enough away.
I originally came to UT as a marketing major hoping to pursue fundraising. I know, kind of a big jump from marketing to mechanical engineering, but it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have loved every minute of it!
The reason I chose to stay in Knoxville after making this major change (pun intended) and one of my favorite things about UT is the endless amount of opportunities. On campus, I have been a part of many organizations including Ignite Serves (a leadership and team building retreat for incoming freshman), UT Ambassadors, RUF (a campus ministry), and now the Tickle College of Engineering Ambassadors. Off campus, I have been given great opportunities to participate in 3 internships as well as a co-op. I spent the summer of 2018 in Athens, Tennessee, working an internship with EnTrans International, LLC. Following that in the summer of 2019 I worked with The Tranzonic Companies. Most recently, I finished up a co-op in the spring of 2021 and headed straight to Mars Wrigley for the summer of 2021. All of these opportunities came to me through events put on by university.
I have absolutely loved making UT my home away from home. I hope you come visit and feel the same way. Good luck wherever you end up, but I would love to see you one day on Rocky Top!
