Hey future engineering Vols!
My name is Molly Claus and I am a senior majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Reliability and Maintenance Engineering.
I am from Chesterfield, Virginia, a suburb of Richmond, VA. The moment I stepped onto Rocky Top I knew I wanted to be a Vol. Some of my favorite things about UT include: the hometown feel of Knoxville, the SEC school football, and the Women in Engineering Program.
Aside from being a TCE ambassador, I am a member of the 1794 honors and scholars program, the Society of Women Engineers, and work as a Resident Assistant in Dogwood Hall. Outside of school I enjoy watching virtually any college sport (especially UT sports), trying new Knoxville restaurants, and spending time with friends.
Engineering has not always been my dream. I never thought it was something I wanted to do until I began taking calculus in high school, where I fell in love with the idea of applying those principles to the real world. Coming from a family of transportation and logistics people, I always thought manufacturing and warehousing would be a boring field to go into. During my time here at UT that perspective has shifted drastically, leading me to spending two summers interning in manufacturing facilities. I spent one summer at Nissan in their Maintenance Engineering department and another at Cargill doing Reliability Engineering at a site. Both of those experiences reinforced my love for manufacturing and the application of my engineering knowledge!
I am so glad that I get to call the University of Tennessee my home, and cannot wait to share my experiences with prospective students. My hope is that you will fall in love with UT just as I did! Feel free to reach out with any further questions.
