Hey future Vols!
My name is Ryan Hulsey, and I am a sophomore majoring in Industrial and Systems Engineering with a minor in Reliability and Maintainability Engineering! I am from Dalton, GA and I am excited to be serving as an Outreach Ambassador for the Tickle College of Engineering!
The University of Tennessee offers so many ways for you to exercise your passions! For me, those include being a member of the Pride of the Southland Band where I play trumpet and am a member of the Social Outreach Committee, serving the Jones Center for Leadership and Service as an IGNITE Team Leader, working with VolsTeach, and being a member of IISE!
My road to engineering was not as clear and simple as most. For the longest time, I viewed engineering as an intimidating field that was built around an excruciating college experience. It wasn't until my senior year and after many, many pieces of advice that I decided engineering was where I needed to be. Now that I am here at UT, I am happy to say that my previous fears were built completely on misconceptions! The Tickle College of Engineering has made me feel at home and has excited me about all the possibilities in engineering. My little brother can tell you that whenever I am home it can be hard to get me to stop talking about the things I’ve learned while away at school. I love getting to share anything and everything I learn with others!
One of my greatest fears coming to UT was that I would feel overwhelmed by the size of the university. Thankfully, that has not been the case at all! UT and TCE have so many ways for you to find your people and truly make Rocky Top feel like home. The students, faculty, and staff that you interact with daily are all incredible resources, and to quote Pocahontas, “You’ll learn things you never knew you never knew!”
I consider myself extremely blessed to serve as an Outreach Ambassador for the Tickle College of Engineering, and I am super excited to meet prospective engineers! Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out, and of course… Go Vols!
