Hi, future Engineering Vols!
My name is Savannah Roth and I am a senior majoring in Biosystems Engineering with a minor in Watersheds! I am originally from Murfreesboro, TN.
Though I'm from Tennessee, I had never been to UT until orientation week! Luckily I had a wonderful support system at UT that made me feel at home from my first day on campus. Even though I hadn't seen campus and wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to major in, I learned about Biosystems Engineering through my amazing advisor and immediately fell in love.
While Biosystems Engineering is formally held in the Herbert College of Agriculture, us students in this major have classes and opportunities in the Tickle College of Engineering as well! We get the best of both worlds: having small, very personal classes in our major at Herbert and also utilizing the amazing resources and labs that Tickle provides.
Currently, I am President of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers and am the Treasurer for the Society of Women Engineers. I have also interned through the Pathways Engineering Internship Program with the Natural Resources Conservation Service where I provided technical assistance on how landowners can conserve soil, water, air and other natural resources. I have engineered multiple streambank stabilization structures and surveyed over 50 projects! It has been amazing to be able to improve Tennessee’s beautiful natural resources and I am so excited to continue working with them after graduation.
Outside of school, I absolutely love to travel to the Smokies for a hike, visit some of Knoxville’s amazing parks, and you can find me outdoors enjoying the beautiful Tennessee scenery almost every weekend.
I’m super excited that you are considering Rocky Top as a place to call home! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about Biosystems Engineering, being a first-generation student, or being a woman engineer. I hope to see you on campus soon!
