Ambassador Profile

Hello! My name is Tyson Johnson, and I am a junior studying Chemical Engineering with a minor in Reliability & Maintainability here at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

I am from Sevierville, Tennessee. Sevierville is about 30 minutes east of Knoxville, so I have been near UT for most of my life. I originally wanted to go to school somewhere further away, but after taking a visit to UT, I knew Knoxville was the place for me. After taking a visit and seeing all that being a student in the Tickle College of Engineering has to offer, I hope you will feel the same.

I have been involved with several organizations on campus. During my freshman year, I lived in the Engage Living and Learning Community. Living in the engineering community was a great way for me to meet other freshman engineering students as soon as I came to campus. I am also involved with our student chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) on the ChemE Car team. I am a member of the UTK chapter of Pi Kappa Phi. I served as the chapter's Scholarship Chairman during the Spring 2018 semester.

Some of the most rewarding experiences I've had as an engineering student at UT are my co-op and internship experiences. In the Summer of 2018, I worked as an intern with SI Group in Newport, TN. While there, I worked with a process that produces a key ingredient in the manufacture of highly engineered plastics. My co-op assignment is with Chemours in New Johnsonville, TN. The Johnsonville plant produces titanium dioxide, a white pigment with a variety of applications.

Feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have!
