Ambassador Profile
Hi future Vols!!
My name is Abigail Lee and I am a second year student majoring in Chemical Engineering. I am fortunate enough to have been raised right here in Knoxville! Despite being so familiar with UTK I was hesitant to begin college so close to home, but the environment here has truly made Rocky Top home sweet home to me!! I genuinely can’t imagine a student body, faculty, and staff that is as proud of and passionate about Big Orange Country as we Vols are. After learning what it really means to be a vol and bear the torch, I couldn’t picture myself anywhere else!!
Despite my attendance at a STEM high school, not many students I knew were pursuing engineering majors and none of them were women. I was apprehensive about choosing a major that seemed so foreign and unapproachable, especially with the stigmas that typically surround engineering. However, the engineering Vols quickly erased any of the worries that I had. My first year instructors built up my confidence and my fellow classmates were there any time I needed support. Regardless of experience, Tickle is a college that welcomes all and provides the
resources needed for success.
Through TCE and UTK I have already been provided with so many opportunities. I am a part of the Haslam Scholars Program, the Integrated Business and Engineering Program, AIChE, WIC, and I have served as a Team Leader for the IGNITE welcome programs. I am currently an Undergraduate Research Assistant in a Chemical Engineering Lab, and was previously able to gain interdisciplinary research experience in an Earth and Planetary Sciences environment. No matter what you enjoy, there is always a way to get involved and a Volunteer to show you the way!!
Rocky Top welcomes all Vols, and I hope you too can find your passions here. Please feel free to reach out with any questions!!
