Ambassador Profile
Hey future Vols!
My name is Madison (Maddi) Smith, and I am a junior majoring in biomedical engineering with a minor in Leadership through the Honors Leadership Program. I am also a member of the Cook Grand Challenge Honors Program.
I grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada and am excited to be an Engineering Ambassador for the Tickle College of Engineering (TCE)! Other than being involved in engineering, I play piccolo in the Pride of the Southland Band and work as one of their Band Librarians.
I've been interested in STEM my whole life. It started with visiting the local children's museum as a little kid, to being involved in the Future City Competition throughout middle school, and finally being in math and science honor societies in high school.
I originally wanted to go into the healthcare field, but I realized I was more interested in the way things worked and being able to solve the problems that doctors have by creating medical devices.
Over the course of my first year in the TCE, I have realized I made the right decision in choosing biomedical engineering. I learned so much about engineering my first year, not only about my own major, but also about other fields of engineering. The community of the classes in TCE is truly special. I made so many friends in my classes and have a solid group of people with which to study or just have a good conversation. In addition to the students, the professors and staff are great resources and genuinely care about your success.
I'm very grateful to have a position as an Engineering Ambassador for the TCE and I can't wait to meet so many new people and prospective engineering students on Rocky Top! It can be intimidating coming to a large college as an incoming freshman, but don't be hesitant to ask questions.
