Ambassador Profile

Hello Prospective Vols!

My name is Emily Diehl and I am a senior here at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I currently study Industrial Engineering and am also pursuing minors in Spanish and Business Administration. Selecting one major to study seemed daunting, but the resources here on Rocky Top as well as the flexibility of professors and advisors have enabled me to pursue all of my academic interests.

I am from Pottstown, Pennsylvania, which is about an hour northwest of Philadelphia. Although I am about 600 miles away from where I grew up, Knoxville and the university have become my new home. The network of professors and students -who all bond over the same shade of orange -made me feel that I had a place in the community.

Through my involvement in a variety of campus organizations and programs, I have had the ability to make a campus of approximately 28,000 students feel much more personal. I am part of the Engineering Honors Program as well as the National Grand Challenge Scholar Program. Both of these programs encourage an interdisciplinary education, which is one of the aspects that drew me into the Tickle College of Engineering. I am also heavily involved in a large number of extracurricular activities at the University. I serve as the social media chair for the Engineering Mentor Program, organize and participate in community service at Inskip Elementary School and conduct research under professors in my department.

In between my sophomore and junior year, I took a mini-term course and participated in a Study Abroad experience in Edinburgh, Scotland. Both of these had a meaningful impact on my education and I hope to apply some of the things I learned over this past summer in the upcoming semesters. This past summer, I worked for Amazon as an Area Manager Intern in Dallas, Texas. It was a great opportunity that I felt overly prepared for thanks to the Tickle College of Engineering.

Hope to see you soon here on Rocky Top!
